10 Incredibly Bad Fashion Statements In James Bond Films

2. May Day - A View To A Kill

I'm putting this right out there for common knowledge: these outfits only begin to remotely work on anyone at all due to the fact that it's Grace freaking Jones who's taking on the role of May Day, the androgynous and utterly badass bodyguard of the villain in A View To A Kill in Roger Moore's last outing. It's also strangely appropriate that Moore has more chemistry with Jones than with the actual Bond Girl Stacey Sutton and that Jones has a brilliantly bittersweet twist of redemption that sees her sacrifice herself to save millions her boss had condemned. While May Day did redeem herself, her outlandish outfits definitely were too escapist to maintain any kind of realism within the film. Jones' own personal style clearly influenced the style of May Day and while Jones is a cutting-edge fashion maven, May Day's propensity for eccentric haute couture doesn't really fit in with the whole concept of being a top-class assassin whose job is to be silent and deadly. There's only so much that you can get away with within the realm of film - running in heels being one of them - but with some of the outfits May Day wears during scenes of combat, fight and flight, there's no way that these over-the-top ensembles can be of any real use.
