Creating lovable bands of misfits for the movies is not an easy feat, by any stretch of the imagination. A big part of that is down to the fact that misfits are often lone wolves who dont work well with others there are hundreds of movies featuring outsiders, but few and far between are the films that group them together, and even fewer that do it well. Everything that Marvel has teased for James Gunns Guardians of the Galaxy suggests its going to be one of those few films that buck the trend. Getting to see Peter Quill / Star-Lord unite with Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot is pretty much guaranteed to be some of the most fun you'll have in the cinema all year. And with it all leading to something even bigger namely, Phase Three of the MCU you can expect this particular band of misfits to grow in the years to come. And smart money says its going to be even more awesome.
10. Napoleon Dynamite
When Jared and Jerusha Hess were writing their comedy, they probably had no idea whatsoever the kind of impact it would have with audiences all over the world. Going against the grain of not taking too kindly to social awkwardness, audiences were completely enamoured by Napoleon Dynamite, and with good reason. When one of his best friends, Pedro, decides to run for class president, going up against the most popular girl in school, Napoleon and Pedro set out to beat the odds and show that a transfer student can overcome the odds and win over hearts and minds. A totally hilarious premise, with spot-on performances from Jon Heder and Efren Ramirez. Heder, in particular, is so spectacularly awkward that you cant help but love him.
