The Role He Almost Had...

On the back of his wonderful, low-key performance as the Iron Giant broke hearts around the world, Vin Diesel was always the smartest choice for similarly large and loveable Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy. His booming voice just works for those types of characters, clearly.

But Diesel could have been in another Marvel movie entirely based on another earlier performance that seemed to paint him as the perfect candidate. In 2000, Diesel played Riddick in Pitch Black, an anti-hero with a troubled past, a vision problem and superhuman senses (in his case, seeing in the dark) and when it came to casting Daredevil three years later, he was hotly tipped.

However, Diesel opted to star in xXx instead:

"You have to pick one film. If you're looking at 'xXx' or 'Daredevil,' and your heart goes with 'xXx,' you have to commit to it. It's often like that."
