10 MORE War Movie Plot Twists Nobody Saw Coming
10. The "Mine" Turns Out To Be A Tin Can - Mine
Led by Armie Hammer before his ignominious fall from grace, Mine is a rare blend of genres - a war movie featuring the usual trappings of a psychological thriller. The 2016 outing sees Hammer take on the role of US Marine Mike Stevens - a sniper who encounters an unthinkably nightmarish situation following a mission gone wrong.
Stevens becomes trapped after stepping on a mine during his exfiltration. One wrong move and the device will blow him to kingdom come - an unfortunate prospect when stranded in the middle of nowhere and being hounded by insurgents.
Haunted by visions of his terminally ill mother and girlfriend Jenny, Hammer's soldier must endure the physical and psychological torment of this unenviable state of affairs until help arrives.
After a gunfight with his pursuers leaves his rescue flare out of reach, the Marine is left with no choice but to finally step off the mine. This development allows director Fabio Guaglione to gleefully unveil the movie's closing twist - there is no explosion, no screams, no mess of broken twisted limbs. The perplexed Stevens digs through the sand to uncover the "explosive", only to discover that his captor was actually a small tin can with a toy soldier inside it all along.
Whoops.
