As of this writing, a fifth movie in the Scream franchise is preparing to hit cinemas, so what better time to power through the other four than right now?

Taking place in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, the series has since 1996 followed Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott as she's come face-to-face with various killers masquerading as the brutal Ghostface, usually in an attempt to seek vengeance for something in Sidney's tragic past.

The joy of the Scream films is that whilst they're great slasher flicks in their own right, their true strength lies in how they cleverly subvert expectations and subtly satirise and pick apart the slasher genre as a whole.

Always coming complete with some genuinely shocking twists, high body counts and witty humour, the movies have maintained a consistently high quality throughout the years, and have yet to lose their touch. Here's to hoping Scream 5 can keep up the good work without the presence of the late, great Wes Craven.
