10 Most Horrific Miscastings In Movie History

By T.J. Barnard /

8. Katie Holmes - Rachel Dawes (Batman Begins)

As far as casting goes, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movies are pretty wonderful, but there's always been one actor amongst the bunch whose inclusion has served only to confuse me time and time again: Katie Holmes'. What is Katie Holmes doing in Batman Begins? Sometimes, when I put this movie on, she pops up, and I'm like, "What are you doing here?" She never replies, of course, because I'm just a man talking to a movie at this point, but you get the gist of what I'm saying: this seems like really bizarre casting on behalf of Christopher Nolan. I mean, she doesn't feel like somebody who naturally inhabits the world that these movies are set in... and she works as a big city prosecutor? No, I'm sorry: I don't believe that. You can imagine how pleased I was, then, when Holmes eventually jumped ship and was replaced with Maggie Gyllenhaal, because she - at least - feels organic to the Gotham we know, and I can believe Maggie as a woman of intelligence. Holmes hasn't gone on to have a particularly great film career since Batman Begins, although... well, no, that's it, really. She just hasn't.
