10 Most Influential Directors Of All Time

By Dolan Reynolds /

9. Federico Fellini

The term "Felliniesque" entered the popular lexicon(isn't that an awesome word?) long ago but it has never been more prominent than now. Every highly visual and stylized film will be compared to Fellini because he is the master of dream sequences and moments of non-sequiter beauty. Terrence Malick and Terry Gilliam are two very obvious directors who have been enormously influenced by Fellini. Gilliam's Brazil and Malick's The Tree of Life both feature scenes of visual mastery that can be traced back to the work of Fellini. His influence goes much deeper than that though. Harmony Korine has a film out now called Spring Breakers that features highly visual moments that hark back to the heyday of Fellini with films like Le Dolce Vita and 8 1/2.
