3. Jason Schwartzman - The Last Showgirl

While it shouldn't be terribly surprising that Jason Schwartzman showed up in his cousin Gia Coppola's new film The Last Showgirl, context is everything, and nobody expected to see the actor playing a part like this.

Near the end of the film, Schwartzman shows up for a few minutes as a casting director for a new Las Vegas show which protagonist Shelly (Pamela Anderson) is auditioning for.

To say it goes badly for Shelly is an understatement - the casting director bluntly tells her she's too old and, as a result, not sexy enough to fit the vibe of the show they're putting together.

Given that Schwartzman has made a career playing endearingly smarmy characters, it's a surprise to seeing him play such a genuinely offputting, dead-serious character who hasn't got a scrap of charm about him.

And considering that Schwartzman is largely concealed in low light throughout the scene, you couldn't be blamed for missing him entirely.
