10 Movie Franchises That Should Die With Their Stars
4. Indiana Jones - Harrison Ford
The original Indiana Jones trilogy is a beloved film series and the fourth entry, well, paraphrasing what South Park said, “defiled it.” Raiders of the Lost Ark kicked off the craze; directed by the hottest director at the time (Spielberg) and starring the hottest actor at the time (Ford), the film earned a best picture nomination and spawned three sequels. Harrison ford has starred in all four (even at 66 in 2008) and has always been the one true treasure hunter. As discussed in the intro, Ford is adamant there will not be another Indiana after he’s retired/deceased.
Spielberg and Ford have teamed up in ’82, ’84, ’89, and ’08. The fourth installment made a modest intake at the cinema, though when adjusted for inflation, is far below the other three.
Disney is hoping to dip into that nostalgia one last time (they did it with Star Wars) and currently has Indiana Jones 5 slated for 9 July 2021. Ford has confirmed he will be returning, but at 77, the clock’s ticking on how much longer the veteran action star can keep it up, and as he said, once he’s done, the franchise is done.
