10 Movie Franchises That Should Die With Their Stars

3. Back To The Future - Michael J. Fox & Christopher Lloyd

Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future trilogy may be the quintessential feel-good series of all time. The first is a masterpiece, the second a near-perfect follow up, and the third an unequivocal, though still fun finish. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd play Marty and Doc and they will forever be known as the time traveling duo.

Like The Godfather, a new installment of Back to the Future is the least likely. Christopher Lloyd is 80, Michael J. Fox has Parkinson’s disease (not that it would stop him, but would surely be hard to work through), and Director Robert Zemeckis has showed little interest. Lloyd, did however speak about the idea, “You don’t want to do another one and disappoint. So, I don’t know. I’d be happy to, for myself. But we’ll see.” He also spoke of Fox’s disease, “His Parkinson’s, he has it, but it’s kind of, ‘So what?’ He just moves ahead. It’s very cool.”

Regardless of whether a fourth flick will come to fruition, we can only hope and pray that if Fox, Lloyd, and Zemeckis aren’t game, Universal has the discipline to let the classic be. Fingers are crossed, but expectations tempered; studios have never been one to act off what should be done when there is money to be made.
