The Happy Ending

Despite them being royally screwed by all of the ungrateful New York residents who manage to forget the fact that they saved them from oblivion not so long ago, the Ghostbusters are once more triumphant at the end of their second movie. They commandeered the Statue Of Liberty to help rally the citizens and sent Vigo packing before he could steal Oscar's little baby body.

The ghosts that were let loose on New York are then presumably all rounded up and sent to ghost prison to live forever in a metal tomb in the Ghostbusters' HQ basement.

But Wait...

Not all of the ghosts deserve to be herded like vermin. As Ghostbusters 2 confirms with the arrival of the Titanic at the docks, some of them are just innocent dead people who can't get their eternal rest.

So the idea of those ghosts being locked up for all eternity with little wankers like Slimer and full-blown monsters is a little... unfair, to be honest. They'd already had to die horribly and now they've gone on to worse without cause.
