10 Movie Sequels You Didn’t Know Were Coming In 2017
Anyone out there excited for Amityville Part 17?
Where would Hollywood be without endless sequels? Summer blockbuster season would be a lot less predictable for sure, and the MCU and DC release slates would look rather empty. Thankfully our appetite for revisiting old characters and stories knows no bounds, and 2017 looks to feed that hunger more than ever before.
We’re getting Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2, Thor: Ragnarok, Logan, Trainspotting 2, Alien: Covenant, Fast 8 and even Blade Runner 2049. It’s a stacked year, which also means some sequels have fallen through the cracks of audience awareness. Not every movie has the marketing budget of Disney or Fox, meaning they have to fight a little harder for people’s attention. Some of these sequels are rebooting long dormant series, while others are simply churning out another entry for quick cash.
They have a long way to go if they want to get people excited, because at the moment most filmgoers aren’t even aware they exist. Let’s take a look at some of the more obscure follow-ups on the horizon, and gauge how excited fans should be.
10. Hellraiser: Judgment
The poor Hellraiser franchise is in terrible shape right now. The series hasn’t had a theatrical release since 1996’s Bloodlines and has descended into the hell of direct to DVD sequels. A remake has been mooted for at least a decade now, yet the studio can’t find a script they like and have had to churn out two cheapie sequels just to keep the rights.
The tenth (?!) instalment - subtitled Judgment - is another of those cheapie efforts, and finds a detective chasing a brutal serial killer. It turns out the detective isn’t so innocent himself and ends up on trial for his very soul during the course of the story. Pinhead will show up at some point for a cameo since his face needs to appear on the DVD cover.
While the story sounds mildly intriguing, it’s doubtful Judgment will be any better than the last five or six entries. At this stage, there’s probably a circle of hell where sinners are forced to watch bad Hellraiser sequels for all eternity.
