Yep, it's Roland Emmerich again. Rectifying his decision not to destroy the statue on screen in Independence Day, the director treats us to a double whammy in The Day After Tomorrow as we first see Lady Liberty taking the brunt of a massive tsunami, before later revealing the iconic landmark buried up to her waist in snow and completely frozen solid. Despite the questionable science involved, the huge tidal wave hitting New York made for a great money shot in the movie's trailers, with Emmerich's love of destroying iconic buildings even extending to the simple yet effective posters that featured a myriad of famous structures buried in the snow. The Statue of Liberty taking a beating from the second Ice Age became one of The Day After Tomorrow's defining images, and even served as the inspiration for the Disaster Movie poster. But let's not talk about that movie, it sucks.
