Last year, Sony decided to skip hosting a Hall H panel, but that was mostly down to them simply not having anything worth showing. Had things panned out a little differently for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Venom and Sinister Six might have been priorities for them at this year's Comic-Con, but both of those were scrapped when they reached a deal with Marvel. They still have plenty of other movies on the way though, and with Marvel deciding not to show up, Sony could have used their Hall H panel to steal the show with the announcement of this new shared Spider-Man, the reboot's director, and the actual title of the movie. That would have generated some serious headlines, but the announcement has instead been made by press release. Tom Holland being chosen still received plenty of attention online, but it's not quite the same. While Spider-Man will no doubt have a big role to play at Comic-Con in 2016, Sony is foolish not to come to San Diego this year to restore faith in the now struggling franchise after the way The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was received. With Marvel calling the shots now, perhaps they decided to listen to them by giving the convention a miss. Sony will still be distributing the Spider-Man movies though, so you'd think they would want to take some credit for the character arriving in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Comic-Con. Maybe they're worried fans would boo them out of Hall H?
