10 Movies That Put Fans In Denial
2. Spider-Man 3
For a whole generation of fans who grew up on the comics and animated show, Spider-Man 3 was built up to be the biggest comic book film event they could remember (ah, how the MCU has changed things).
Following one of the best in the genre, director Sam Raimi promised to cap off his ground-breaking trilogy by featuring one of the fanbases' most beloved villains in Venom. There was no way this wouldn't be great, right?
On a surface level, it looked like it was more of the same, keeping a consistent tone with entertaining fights and sympathetic antagonists. Great moments like the birth of Sandman as well as the church tower and restaurant scenes also went a long way in satisfying fans at first.
Still, a lot was needed to look past the sheer volume of characters and plot lines fighting for attention, with Raimi shoehorning in multiple love triangles, retcons and horrible amnesia plot devices to fit everything in.
The sad part is that each of these elements could've been great in isolation with the attention they deserved and enough time to explore further. Eventually, fans learned the hard way that more does not equal better with this bloated mess.
