1968 saw the Richard Pryor team up with director Penelope Spheeris for the seditious satire Uncle Tom€™s Fairy Tales: The Movie For Homosexuals. The film followed a group of Black Panthers who kidnap a wealthy white man and try him for all the racial crimes in American history.

After the movie was shot, Spheeris had put together a rough cut for Pryor'€™s personal viewing. However, subsequent to an argument with his then-wife Shelley Bonis, who thought her husband was spending too much time and money on the project, the comedian demolished the negative in a fit of fury.

Spheeris later managed to reconstruct the forty-some minutes of film by arduously splicing together the mangled pieces. However, the result was so rutted that the film danced around as it ran through the projector gate.
