10 Movies We Desperately Wanted To Happen (But Never Will)

5. Skate Jam

Skate Jam was set to be the pseudo sequel to Space Jam, starring professional skateboarder Tony Hawk in the Michael Jordan role. The naming conventions do make it seem like Michael Jordan is a famous astronaut, but that aside, it’s a solid concept.

It’s the kind of movie which would surely have either been glorious or an utterly spectacular failure.

If the name seems familiar, that’s because it was recycled by Hawk himself, with recent mobile game Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam releasing last year with no Looney Tunes in sight.

The reason the plug was pulled on this rests squarely with Looney Tunes: Back In Action. The follow up feature to Space Jam made only $20 million; less than a quarter of Space Jam’s $90 million, and scared Warner Brothers away.

The ship has well and truly sailed on this one, with Hawk no longer the mega star he was and skateboarding no longer the popular, rebellious activity it was in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. Fear not though, for an actual sequel to Space Jam, starring the modern day Jordan in LeBron James, is moving along nicely.
