10 Movies You Won't Believe Are Turning 20 In 2025

5. Charlie & The Chocolate Factory

Some movie directors have their favourites that they will work with over and over again. Martin Scorsese frequently collaborates with Leonardo DiCaprio, while Quentin Tarantino has his own pool of actors he continually revisits. Then of course, there is Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, who have worked together no fewer than nine times over the years.

20 years ago, when there were just three collaborations between the two to be enjoyed (Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, and Sleepy Hollow), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory released in all its weird and wonderful glory.

It had been 34 years since Gene Wilder's take on the infamous eccentric, and while Johnny Depp's version was very, very different, it was not without its merits. Particularly taking into account the mountain remakes have to climb right out of the gate anyway, this reboot was a huge success. It was until only 2023 that this version of the story had been the most recent in mainstream memory, though Timothée Chalamet has now taken the Wonka reigns, after Depp held them for nearly two whole decades.

Since its release, Depp and Burton have gone on to work together an astonishing five more times, including on The Corpse Bride, another that will turn 20 this year.
