4. Fantastic Four

It can often be quite difficult to grasp just how long the MCU has been running, but then you consider that Fantastic Four was released just three years prior to Iron Man. That's all there is separating Tim Cross' first take on Marvel's First Family, and Marvel Studios' juggernaut franchise that's still going today.

It may seem as though Fantastic Four should be older than that. The VFX and the aesthetic in general left quite a lot to be desired in 2005, in particular Mr. Fantastic's powers, and the practical effects that brought The Thing to life, while Iron Man looked pretty damn flawless just three years later.

Then there is the fact that there has already been a failed reboot, namely Josh Trank's Fant4stic in 2015, before yet another new version will bring the family into said MCU in 2025. 

There are those that look back on Fantastic Four from 2005 with a touch of nostalgic joy, but it's widely thought that neither this, nor the sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, were able to do the characters justice. The new iteration ten years removed was far worse, but even though the MCU is going through a rough patch right now, will Fantastic Four: First Steps do the trick 20 years later?
