10 Niggling Worries Over Marvel's Next 10 Movies

3. It Won't Work Without Spider-Man - Venom

Even as part of the MCU, a Venom movie is a tough sell.

After all, every movie in the canon thus far has focused on a heroic character. Venom, of course, is kind of a villain - an anti-hero at best. So how, exactly, does the studio find a way to make said film appealing to viewers (save for casting Zac Efron as Eddie Brock, which is currently rumoured to be happening)?

As has been suggested by a number of feverish fans, they make Spider-Man the "villain" instead, of course. They frame the movie as a Venom origin story that places Peter Parker in the antagonist role and we see how everyone's favourite neighbourhood Spider-Man, despite being a hero, can have a negative effect on the world, too. Essentially, the film could work as a deconstruction of the superhero movie, allowing audiences to feel a conflicted sympathy for Venom.

The big concern here, however, is whether or not the studio would have the guts to go down this road. And even more pertinently, there's no saying that they're even allowed to, given the complexities of the deal with Marvel. Would Kevin Feige really be happy to see Spidey used in a non-continuity film between his appearances in the MCU? It's unlikely.

But then maybe they'll go with the Miles Morales possibility?
