10 Painfully Bad One-Liners In Otherwise Great Movies
3. "Things Are Worse Than Ever," And "No More Dead Cops" - The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight is hailed as one of the best DC films to date. It brings together a multitude of genres including action, thriller, film noir and of course the superhero film to create a compelling and entertaining film adaptation of the popular Caped Crusader. The dialogue in the film is pretty hard to forget but largely, it is all for the right reasons. To this day, Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is still considered one of the best comic book character portrayals in film.
Unfortunately, the painfully bad lines that make this list are delivered by unnamed characters. Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent is delivering a press conference about the recent attacks carried out by the Joker and in quick succession, two unnamed cops shout, "Things are worse than ever," and, "No more dead cops."
On paper, these lines might not seem that bad but it's their delivery that seals their doom. Neither line comes across as very sincere and it just doesn't match the mood of the scene at all. It's all a bit 'bro' and hot-headed and sounds more like jeering at a sports game - not a serious press conference concerning the death of their colleagues.
