10 Planned Movie Sequels To Failed Franchises

6. Beverly Hills Cop IV

Okay, so there were rumours until a few months ago that this one might actually be happening with Brett Ratner directing. But given that the last film in the franchise was over 20 years ago and didn't quite get the reception it deserved, the biggest question is why are they considering making it? In the 1980s, Eddie Murphy's Axel Murphy was a great character - a Detroit detective who moved to Beverly Hills to solve crime. It was a quintessential 80's action movie franchise like Lethal Weapon and he made for a great fish out of water character audiences loved. But the third film in the franchise didn't quite hit the same mark. A theme park action sequence, an overload of humour that didn't quite work; Beverly Hills 3 was a tired sequel to a franchise that should have ended after the first sequel. And it didn't seem as if the writers could nail the story either, with Eddie Murphy claiming that the script was still in development despite the planned release date of March 2016 - yes this month. Like many sequels, the question you have to ask is do we need a sequel? Do we need Axel in his stonewashed jeans running around LA more than thirty years after the original? I can probably predict the answer...
