9. Carol Danvers Is The Perfect Character To Break The Current Trend
Lets be honest, this only works if the character has definitive appeal in her own right. If Marvel grabbed a character that wasnt all that exciting or too bizarre for even comic book readers to rally behind, then the effort would become more political than artistic and that would be missing the point. Hollywood shouldnt simply fund female-driven films equally because they ought to on an ethical level, but that they should on an economic one (sorry, but thats a lot of money to toss around based on a warm fuzzy feeling you get from the last few minutes of an after school special). In terms of her character, Carol Danvers is complicated and worldly a tangible character based on an archetype that most people can relate to. And yes shes tall, blonde, and reasonably clad for a female super-hero (which really is saying something). For better or for worse Carol Danvers is more than acceptable in terms of the marketing strategies that most studios have in the bag. Shes almost perfect, because shes not green, nor dressed like she's going to a particularly ostentatious beach.
