10 Reasons Marvel's Phase 3 Will Be Great

6. Captain Marvel With Carol Danvers

Of all the characters who have held the title of Captain Marvel (and that's just in Marvel Comics), Carol Danvers is the one Marvel Studios has chosen to feature in its upcoming film. This is primarily significant because it means the studio is releasing its first woman-led movie, but it's also a coup for the character itself. Since being reimagined into the role of Captain Marvel a couple of years ago, Danvers has developed a loyal, vocal following (known as the Carol Corps). With writer Kelly Sue DeConnick at the helm of Danvers's monthly missions, the Carol Corps has been thrilled at the adventures of their hero of choice, and now, their loyalty is being rewarded even further. It makes sense to feature Danvers from a logic standpoint - not only is she human (unlike the original Captain Marvel and his son and daughter, each of whom later took up the role), but her powers of flight, strength, durability, energy projection are basically the standard Superman-style set (unlike Monica Rambeau). None of that is too complicated, which means filmmakers can focus on the character aspect of the movie, hammering home Danvers's inner strength and military experience.
