10 Reasons X-Men Should Never Join The MCU

4. Both Universes Are Already Building Towards The Future (In Different Directions)

In addition to both the X-Men universe and the MCU being far too well established for either to have much wiggle room at this point, there's also the fact that both of them also already have their respective futures pretty well mapped out. And in their proverbial road maps exist little to no room for their paths to cross.

Marvel is currently moving forward with phase three of their cinematic universe, with the third Avengers film already in production and a fourth already planned to end the phase in 2019. Plus, they've already begun laying the groundwork for phase four and beyond.

Meanwhile, on the X-Men side of things, The New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and Dark Phoenix are all set to come out next year. Then, the Gambit and X-Force movies, as well as a third Deadpool, will come out sometime afterwards, not to mention the X-23-centric film that is reportedly in the very early stages of development.

The point here being that, at least for some time, the two universes are on their own distinctive paths. The MCU's future has been laid out very deliberately and Marvel appears to be content with staying the course for the most part. Whereas Fox's plan appears to be building upon their own universe even more and exploring aspects of the X-Men mythos that have yet to be put to film (or at least put to film properly.)
