2. Lee Cronin's The Mummy
When a property opts for a complete tonal shift change, it doesn't always work. The Fantastic Four were never meant to be dark and gritty, as they were made in 2015, and neither were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That doesn't always have to be the case, though.
Tired ideas often need to be explored differently, and after a fun, action-adventure series with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, and a largely forgettable (at best) reboot with Tom Cruise, it would seem that The Mummy is fully embracing the horror aspects of its supernatural subject.
Lee Cronin's The Mummy is set to release in April 2026, and it should be of no surprise that the director of Evil Dead Rise is going to make the most unsettling cinematic take on the property so far. Only one trailer has been released at the time of writing, but it looks incredibly creepy and genuinely scary.
It would be reasonable for anybody to have been put off anything Mummy-related after that Cruise movie bombed so badly that it killed The Dark Universe before it ever got off the ground, but Cronin's Mummy could be exactly what is needed to reinvigorate things, even more so than the announced return of both Fraser and Weisz for another, very separate adventure.
