10 Recent And Upcoming Monster Movies You MUST Watch

3. Nosferatu

It would seem, based on the evidence given since his debut feature film back in 2015, that Robert Eggers simply cannot miss. The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019), and The Northman (2022) were all critically acclaimed, before arguably his best outing to date, Nosferatu.

Eggers' fourth effort, a remake of the classic from over 100 years earlier, is a gothic horror masterpiece, compelling, creepy, and cruel, supported by a ridiculously stacked cast. It's no surprise that Nosferatu racked up four Academy Award nominations (Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling), and that it is easily the director's most commercially successful effort so far.

The highlight, however, was of course Bill SkarsgÄrd's Count Orlok. The vampire at the center of the story was brought to life by a man with experience playing monsters, and almost instantly became a hugely popular revelation. He was everything such a tough role in a tough film demanded of him.

Naturally, after going four for four to start his career, eyes are firmly on Eggers' next project, which will be another period monster piece, Werwulf. Yet again starring the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson, there is no reason to think that this couldn't be yet another home run.
