10 Ridiculous Batman V Superman Rumours We Hope Aren't True

6. The Budget Is $410 Million

The Rumour: Though Warner Bros. are being tight-lipped about exactly how much the production has cost, the word on the street is that the film's budget may end up totaling just north of $400 million, making it possibly the most expensive movie ever made, in excess of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $378.5 million price tag and almost double that of Man of Steel's $225 million budget. How Likely Is It?: 5/10. Warner's officially reported budget is $250 million, but when you factor in the sheer wealth of actors in Batman v Superman compared to Man of Steel (namely the presence of Ben Affleck), that seems unlikely. In addition, there's the movie's infamously complex, lengthy shoot, a massive post-production process, and a huge marketing campaign that all costs huge bank. If the movie justifies the budget, then fine, but Warner Bros will need it to be a colossal hit to actually make a profit, and such is the danger of studios continually greenlighting ambitious projects with huge amounts of cash. Rumours have already been swirling for months that the Avengers: Infinity War saga will cost a total of $1 billion to produce, which seems absurd and reeks a little of hubris, but don't be surprised to see it happen. On one hand it allows an epic, sprawling canvas like we've never seen before, but it also sets a potentially toxic precedent.
