How often does a superhero movie revolve around one or two characters? How often does the hero's success or failure impact fewer than 100 people? Not very often.
Superhero movies seem to pride themselves on how big they can make their antagonists (sometimes literally). It seems that with each successive movie, the stakes reach a higher level, getting to a point where it's not just the neighbourhood in danger, it's not just the city, it's not even just the planet anymore.
By now, the entire universe being in danger seems like another day of the week, and with this constant escalation, it can become tiring trying to grasp the sheer weight of such ideas. But that's the fun part.
Who doesn't love seeing Thanos fling a moon or see Thor stand up to the heat of a star? Who doesn't love the craziness that comes with Thanos dusting half of all life? Many times, the ridiculous magnitude of these attacks makes our minds explode, struggling to comprehend what's going on. What could be more exciting than that?
