10 Superhero Movie Clichés Everybody Secretly Loves
3. The Techy Sidekick
Everyone hates a bad sidekick. You know, the teenagers sporting bright costumes and who act like a knockoff, child-friendly version of the "real hero." They're like annoying siblings that your parents made you take with you when you left the house.
But not all sidekicks are like that. Sometimes, they have little to no role in the action itself. They have a completely different job: supplying the hero with cool gadgets. What would Batman or Black Panther be without their tools? The answer is not quite as exciting.
That's where the techy sidekick comes in. They often have some of the most fun scenes, introducing new gadgets that the hero will probably use later in the movie. They give us more insight into the main hero's abilities and, as is the case with Shuri in Black Panther, often offer some of the funniest scenes in the movie.
These characters may not have the biggest roles in the story but they also often illustrate some of the film's major themes. With Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight, the techy sidekick not only acts as a supplier for gadgets but also as a reminder to keep Batman from using such technologies immorally. The techy sidekick can do it all.
