10 Superhero Movie Clichés Everybody Secretly Loves

4. The Hero Always Wins

More than any other genre, the idea that the hero will always win is not only a suggestion, but oftentimes a requirement in superhero movies. It is almost ingrained into the structure and success of the genre: good guy fights bad guy, good guy wins.

Whenever we see the hero fight the villain, we know that the hero will inevitably come out on top. It may not happen immediately, but it will happen eventually. It seems like such expectations would get stale and zap all of the tension from the films. If you know how it's going to end, what do you need to worry about?

Despite what happens at the end of Infinity War, we know that at some point, Thanos will lose. We know that even after being beaten up over and over again, Captain America will continue to get up. We know that in the end, the hero has to succeed, even if he or she ends up dying in the process.

But this trope tends to have another symptom: the awe of success. It seems that during those resounding moments of triumph, where the hero finally overcomes the weight of the villain, we just can't help but feel attached to the character and share in their success. It may be expected but it's exciting every time.
