Recently, we all got the news that Warner Bros were bringing Gizmo back to screens in an animated show that would air on their new streaming platform. But that wasn't the first news of the continuation of the Gremlins franchise, because Chris Columbus revealed in early 2018 that a third movie was coming.
In April of that year, he revealed he and his production company 1492 Pictures were "actively talking about" it and that "it will almost definitely be a reboot." That came months after he claimed he had a completed script for a third film in August 2017, so clearly something big changed.
In all likelihood, the animated prequel - which would be infinitely less expensive to make than a feature - will be the only continuation of this series we get to see. At least for now.
