This year has been a strange year for cinema. Thanks to the current global situation, numerous highly anticipated films have had their release dates pushed back, with Black Widow, Candyman, The French Dispatch, and A Quiet Place Part II all delayed until next year.

Thankfully, though, this year hasn’t been a complete bust for cinema – far from it, in fact. Alongside the recent likes of TENET and Bill And Ted Face The Music, the past nine months have also saw the release of fantastic films like The Painted Bird, Mulan, Portrait Of A Lady On Fire, Onward, and Parasite to name just a few. Whether you managed to catch it on the big screen or streamed it from the comfort of your own home this year has had something incredible for you, no matter what you were looking for.

Of course, not everything released this year has been a hit. From the painfully average to the titanically terrible, plenty of stinkers have found their way onto our screens too.

However, even some of the absolute worst films of the year have their positives that make them worth a watch.

10. The Wrong Missy

Realising on Netflix this summer, The Wrong Missy is one of the latest offerings from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. If you’ve seen the likes of Murder Mystery and The Ridiculous 6, then you’ll already have an idea of what sort of ordeal you’re in for.

Helmed by Tyler Spindel (Father Of The Year) and starring David Spade and Lauren Lapkus, this film sees successful businessman Tim (Spade) invite his ideal match to a work retreat to Hawaii. However, when Missy (Lapkus) - who he’d previously had a disastrous date with – arrives on the plane instead, he realises that he’s been texting the wrong Missy this entire time.

From herein, this flick is exactly what you’d expect, following every over-done cliché of the trite rom-com playbook. While some audiences found The Wrong Missy entertaining, critics had a different view, with many taking ire with its mean spiritedness and outdated humour.

However, there's one reason why you should watch this film, and that’s to see Lapkus’s performance. She is genuinely funny and gives this role far more heart and energy than it deserves. Making a film this disastrous worth your attention is testament just how talented Lapkus is.
