10 Things Christopher Eccleston Has Done Since Leaving Doctor Who

3. G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra

When people talk about Christopher Eccleston's career post-Who, the film that very often crops up in conversation is the 2009 disaster of good taste that is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Eccleston must be thrilled with how well audiences' long-term memories work, this film is one case where he must have been praying for collective amnesia. In this stunningly awful foray into over-the-top guff that threatened to destroy the childhoods of G.I. Joe fans in much the same way the prequel films destroyed the childhoods of Star Wars fans, Eccleston portrayed the massively underwhelming villain Destro. He tried his best to inject some class and quality into his role but, in the end, he could only succeed in attaining the relative heights of mediocrity after digging his way out of the morass of excrement that was everything else in the film. He was probably relieved beyond words to not have a part in the sequel. He wasn't the only one.
