9. Any mention of social media or reference to the internet
The way we learn about continually breaking news these days is basically online. So why arent survivors in modern films scrolling frantically through TweetDeck or their Facebook Newsfeed to find out whats happening during an outbreak? Obviously, a bunch of characters sitting around playing with their smartphones doesnt make compelling apocalyptic cinema. But continuing to ignore this huge part of the way we experience the world risks the suspension of disbelief. I can believe in zombies; I cant believe people wouldnt be sharing their undead-capturing Instagrams and Vines with the world. Recent history has shown that theres no scenario so terrifying it stops all the witnesses filming and uploading it to YouTube.
