How a devastated wasteland is safer than modern-day America is anyone's guess. The Summers family spent roughly twelve years living as Slym, Red, and Nathaniel Dayspring. Scott and Jean were the same age when they returned to the present, leaving the teenage Nathaniel in the future where he became one of his era's greatest heroes. When he returned, Cable had already reached adulthood, and now appears to be significantly older than his father.
