10 Things You Need To Know About Sony's Spider-Man Universe Plans
5. Things Are Looking Bright On The Animated Front Too
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a box office hit, and a critical darling which saw it ultimately win a long list of awards. Now, Sony Pictures has a sequel in the works with Joaquim Dos Santos (Justice League Unlimited) at the helm, and a teaser confirming its 2022 release date promised a whole new host of spider-themed heroes.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it appears as if Miles Morales will remain an animated character for the foreseeable future as there hasn't been so much as a single rumour pointing to the alternate universe Spider-Man making his presence felt in a live-action setting.
On the plus side, this animated "Spider-Verse" looks set to get much bigger with the news that a female-led spinoff is also being developed. That will probably revolve around Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen, a breakout hero from the first movie who would also benefit from a live-action debut. Oh, and don't be surprised if Tom Holland is finally able to appear as Peter Parker in one of these films now that Sony has a greater degree of creative control!
