3. Toy Story 4

I mean, do we really need a fourth one?

The third Toy Story brought an end to the franchise perfectly, and it seemed like Woody and Buzz were ready to watch the sun set on a grateful universe. Now they’re coming back and despite the trilogy’s huge popularity, nobody seems particularly excited about it.

The trailers so far have been uninspiring, only offering tiny details, probably thinking the name alone was enough for the hype. However, that hasn’t proved to be the case and the marketing has been scrambling. The new characters/increased prominence for Bo Peep haven’t done them any favours either.

There’s nothing wrong with giving background characters a more fleshed out story four movies in. So far though, this seems like a drastic and unwarranted change for a character who’s barely developed at all previously.

The movie just smacks of cynicism, which is not what we expect from Pixar at all. Recently they’ve been churning out more sequels, which sometimes feels forced and saps away the creativity they’re known for.

If they don’t get Toy Story 4 right, there’s going to be a lot of pissed off fans.
