10 Upcoming Movies That Could Massively Overperform At The Box Office

3. It: Chapter Two

When It hit theaters back in 2017, it caught the world off-guard. Even the most optimistic projections couldn't have prepared us for the reign of dominance that it unleashed on the box office - which saw it break the Exorcist's 44-year record to become the highest-grossing horror film of all time.

An impressive and totally unexpected feat, there is little reason to think that the upcoming sequel, It: Chapter Two, won't do it all over again.

Horror sequels often struggle to recapture the magic of their predecessor because they tend to revive the concept for a new standalone story, but that isn't something that It's sequel has to worry about. Not only will the film focus on the adult versions of the Losers Club members (with the young actors reprising their roles as the younger versions of the characters), the story will be tied directly to Stephen King's novel.

It: Chapter Two will also likely benefit from the two-year wait between films as its predecessor has undoubtedly picked up a lot of new fans since its box-office domination. Moreover, there has also been a lot of intrigue surrounding the idea of what an It sequel would even look like.

This isn't a case of going to the well one too many times, it's expanding upon what was already there and, if it goes to plan, it could recreate the success of its predecessor and defy expectations one more time with another record-breaking performance.
