10 Upcoming Movies With Troubled Productions
2. The Batman
With a flurry of casting news and rumors, it seems as if Matt Reeves' The Batman has its footing. This is pleasant news, as it has not been an easy process so far.
When first conceived in 2015, this was Ben Affleck's The Batman, as he was set to write, direct, produce and star in the film. Production was set to begin in 2017, with Affleck having a finished script and even released test footage of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.
This all came at a time when the DCEU was at its most dysfunctional. After the disappointing returns of Justice League, Warner Bros went back to the drawing board and The Batman faced reassignments. Matt Reeves was now tasked with writing and directing as Affleck's role gradually diminished until his complete exit from the DCEU in January.
All doubts that this project would ever happen would have been reasonable if it were any other property, but The DCEU is still moving along. Following the box office success of Aquaman and the critical reception of Shazam, the studio looks to have some steam.
The soft reboot has gone well so far and a new version of Batman is scheduled to join this universe in June of 2021. Just a reminder to never count out the Batman.
