10 Villains Who Need To Appear In The MCU

2. Mysterio

It feels like every time we get closer to seeing Mysterio realised on the big screen, something else comes up. Between two (and soon to be three) separate cinematic versions of Spider-Man, the wall crawler has battled the likes of Green Goblin, Rhino, Shocker, Vulture, Lizard Man, Sand Man and a whole host of others, but he has yet to face one of his most fearsome enemies.

Although Logan reportedly owes a lot to Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan series, it doesn’t contain the very catalyst for that book’s events: Mysterio, who manages to hypnotise Wolverine into violently butchering all of his fellow X-Men.

As a master manipulator and wielder of illusions, Mysterio relies on trickery and mind control in order to inflict suffering. Imagine the combined mind control powers of Loki and Jessica Jones’s Kilgrave, mixed with some of Scarlet Witch’s molecular manipulation, and you have some idea of the power Mysterio possesses.

Perhaps the only reason he’s never been brought to theatres is because of his appearance. When adopting the alias of Mysterio, Quentin Beck wears what is essentially a fish bowl on his head, with a flowing purple coat covering his skin-tight green jumpsuit.

Apparently, there were plans to have long-time Sam Raimi collaborator and frequent Spider-Man cameo Bruce Campbell appear as Mysterio in Raimi’s cancelled Spider-Man 4. With the web-slinger making a comeback (and quickly running out of villain’s to punch), perhaps there’s still hope yet for Mysterio.
