The Magic Christmas Tree begins strangely and gets stranger; it begins with a kid hitting his head as he tries to help an old woman get her cat out of a tree, at which point the film incredulously turns from monochrome to colour. The woman is a witch, and she gives him a magical seed as a thank you, which when he plants it, gives him a tree that will grant him three wishes. He uses his first wish to goof off and have fun, then asks the tree to give him Santa all for himself, which results in the tree kidnapping Santa, before the kid, following a bizarre incident where he meets a giant in the forest, decides that it was a selfish choice, and so his final wish is to erase the last wish. The film ends with the boy waking up, which is just about the only coherent thing in the entire film. It's how we imagine a Christmas film would unfold if Salvador Dali had a hand in making it; very little makes sense in this barmy slice of Yuletide fare, but at least it's not boring, nor does it need an MST3K commentary track to be funny. All the same, it's the weirdest holiday film you'll ever be likely to find, so this Christmas, maybe give it a whirl, if you can find it, anyway. What are the weirdest Christmas films you've seen?
