10 Worst Animated Movies Of The 2010s

3. The Emoji Movie (2017)

Literally from the moment this film was announced, everyone knew it would be a failure. The public perception didn’t help when the first trailers were released. And then it crashed and burned, when Sir Patrick Stewart, Shakespearian trained actor, big and small screen legend, British national treasure and a Knight of the realm, was cast as Poop. Oh dear…

Pity all the parents who paid money for this overlong commercial for Sony products ad money-vacuum apps for their phones. That is literally all this film is, one 90-minute long advert!

The story attempts to be a film about expressing yourself, while also throwing in the most ham-fisted feminist message in an attempt to be empowering to women (“Women are always coming up with stuff that men are taking credit for”). Basically, the film is saying to be yourself no matter what anyone says. And this is true… for the men. By the end of the film the “strong, independent” female character ends up being the princess she was programmed as and back to status quo you go!

And all of this is discounting James Cordon’s insufferable Hi-5 emoji, shameless plugs for Dropbox, Just Dance and Candy Crush, as well as big plot-holes about how the universe works.
