This sci-fi epic is based on the series of books by Frank Herbert, its thought to be the best-selling sci-fi saga of all time. The film follows the rise of young noblemans son, from the time of his father's betrayal and murder by the evil Baron Harkonnen, to his discovery of a great secret behind a planet called Dune and his own destiny, which is to free the planet and its inhabitants from the cruel rule of the Emperor. Many die-hard Dune fans were unhappy with David Lynchs whimsical approach to the story. Especially when the master of strange surrealism, Alejandro Jorodowsky was the original director for the production. Jorodowskys adaptation was unfortunately canned due to a series of tragedies with timing and budget (watch the documentary, Jorodowskys Dune for a superb retelling of this), but Lynchs takeover still has some sublime moments of genius. In this spectacle, Baron Harkonen, a mad, fat slob is having his nodules and spots drained and while divulging his master plan, his nephew guzzles down a raw mouse cocktail from some futuristic Pez Dispenser.
