2. Annie - Dashcam

Dashcam receiving polarizing reviews upon its release in June 2022, with critics full of praise for the film's scare mechanics and unabashedly chaotic vibe. The issue with Dashcam's enjoyment factor lay with the film's protagonist.

Toxic lead Annie, played by Giant Drag's Annie Hardy, is without hyperbole, possibly the least likable horror character of all time - the living embodiment of the MAGA hat and "anti-liberal" sweatshirt she wears. Spewing an obnoxious tirade of offensive vitriol interspersed with some of the worst rapping the human race has ever had the misfortune to hear, her obnoxious nasal tones are a constant, unescapable presence across a truly ghastly 76 minutes.

Dashcam is shot in found footage style, inspired by Hardy's Band Car YouTube series. Accordingly, viewers are literally locked in the car with this insufferably irritating personality and none of the door or window handles work. Hardy turns the film into a literal road trip from Hell; the worst car journey that you've ever imagined, except you don't even have the merciful option of hurling yourself out of the moving car to your death.

Considering this was clearly the reaction that Hardy was seeking, the strength of her performance should be commended. With that being said, it does not change the fact that she breathed life into one of the most abhorrently annoying horror characters ever witnessed.
