10 Worst Movie Characters Of 2021 (So Far)

10. Bernie Hayes - Godzilla Vs. Kong

Brian Tyree Henry is a great actor, but he's among several Godzilla vs. Kong actors playing human characters who really didn't need to be in the movie at all.

Henry plays Bernie Hayes, a former Apex Cybernetics technician who has since become a conspiracy theorist obsessed with exposing the company's experiments and uncovering the existence of the "Titans."

Because this isn't enough, Bernie also showers with bleach in an effort to "disable tracking technology" and of course hosts his own Titan-hunting podcast.

A depressing amount of the movie's time is devoted to Bernie teaming up with Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) and Josh (Julian Dennison) as they investigate Godzilla's rampage and eventually stumble across Mechagodzilla.

The fact that Bernie is a cringe-worthy stereotype of a conspiracy theorist isn't bad enough, because he ends up being proven completely right by film's end, which in an era where conspiracy theorists are arguably more harmful than ever makes for some pretty awful optics.

Bernie wasn't a charming, off-kilter loon: he was actively annoying and his mere presence added needless minutes onto the runtime of a film already overwhelmed with pointless characters.
