11 Characters The Hobbit Trilogy Nailed

6. Bombur - Stephen Hunter

What does everyone remember about Bombur from the book? He's the fat one. The one that falls into the river in Mirkwood and has to be carried by his companions. The one that eats too much. But he was a dwarf that tempered foolishness with courage; Bombur was the first dwarf to volunteer to take the boat across the river in Mirkwood, despite not knowing what lay on the other side. What audiences seem to forget when it comes to The Hobbit movie trilogy is that they're also supposed to be a lot more fun than the darker Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Bombur captures that immensely. He is full of energy, despite his size, especially during the epic log barrel sequence where Bombut transforms into a formidable fighter, using the barrel as armour. Not every character needs to be dark and dangerous and Bombur perfectly captures one of the lighter characters from the book.
