Thanks to the tight security surrounding The Force Awakens, very little has sneaked out concerning the plot. A broad picture has emerged from fans diligently piecing together speculation, supposed official leaks and good old fashioned wishful thinking, but the reality is that we'll all have to wait until December to find anything out. That doesn't mean there isn't an almost tangibly ominous feel about Han Solo's future. Or lack of it. The horrible realisation that should be creeping up Star Wars fans' spines at the minute is that Han probably has to die, regardless of how many voices cry out in terror and disgust. Harrison Ford didn't originally want to come back for the first sequels, so you have to think that he's only returned this time on the provision that he's spectacularly killed off in the interest of narrative impact. And how better to cement his mythology as a character than to make a martyr of him? Ford would be delighted with that. Star Wars fans might take longer to come round to it, but they'd' get there eventually.
