It's rather unfortunate for Pixar that they're judged with every release on a perpetually shifting quality benchmark that rises to the height of their best film every time a new one is released. They're expected to outdo themselves every time, which is an unsustainable model that cruelly makes anything less than exemplary look like a failure. So it is with inevitable intrigue that the next film - and the second original property of the year - The Good Dinosaur hits cinemas towards the end of the year. Obviously little is known about it really, because it's Pixar and they keep their cards close to their chest, but it looks like Pixar bread and butter. But can it really be better than the enchanting Inside Out? Best Guess Answer Probably. So far, the marketing has made it look pretty underwhelming, but that's a curious quirk of Pixar's approach to all of their movies. Only Inside Out really had a great first teaser, and it offered very little of what the film was actually about. But it's Pixar and it's from one of their graduate darlings, in Peter Sohn (who directed Partly Cloudy and has been involved in a lot of Pixar movies), so you really have to have faith in it. Whether it will be better than the glorious Inside Out is another matter though.
