2. A Dog's Purpose

The Plot: A dog (voiced by Josh Gad) seeks to discover his life's purpose as he lives various lives and is reincarnated at the end of each one to be loved by different sets of families.

Why You'll Cry: It's an absurd premise and one that certainly seems to scream "Please cry!", but it's based on W. Bruce Cameron's bestselling 2010 weepie novel and is directed by Lasse Hallström, the guy who made us all sob up a storm with 2009's canine tear-jerker Hachi: A Dog's Tale.

We all lose it when a dog dies in a movie, and this one's literally taking that concept to an unprecedented level by having the dog die over and over again in a single movie.

It could totally result in emotional overkill, but it's a safe bet it'll still manage to wring at least a few tears out of you, if not a full-of deluge depending upon how exploitative it is.
